Mexico City-based jacquard source launches UTP-America fabric line

HIGH POINT - Jacquard textile mill Unidad Textile Puente, based in Mexico City, is introducing a line at Showtime under the new UTP-America name, for its newly established distribution arm in Winston-Salem, N.C. It is exhitibing here this week in space 1-528 in Suites in Market Square.
Shipments will be sent FOB to Hickory, N.C., using TSG Synthetics as the distribution point, the company said.
Enrique Gabayet Manzano is the third generation owner and weaver at the company, founded in 1942.
"The opening of UTP-America, addressing customers in the United States and Canada, represents a very important goal for us to improve the service to our customers and expand geographical boundaries as part of our long range strategic plan for growth," Manzano said.
"We have been exporting to North America and Europe for decades, so we are comfortable with this new center in Hickory, which will enable us to perform more efficiently in the spirit we have been known for."
Shipments will leave the mill in Mexico each Monday for Hickory and will take a few days in transit. Freight costs will be lower than with overseas sourcing, the company said.
"Our mill being on the same continent as our customer provides us the ability to reduce lead times, order minimums and inventory projections associated with offshore suppliers. Our goal is to make life simpler for customers," said Manzano.
The company has eight independent sales representatives in the U.S. and Canada. UTP-America sales and marketing is headed by Don Frail Associates, a veteran of upholstered furniture and textiles. Frail and UTP have had a successful working relationship for many years, the company said.
