Decorating Den adds three businesses
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 7, 2011
EASTON, Mds. — Decorating Den Interiors, a system of independent design and home furnishings owners, has announced three new business openings, making a total of 22 in 2011.
The newest units were opened by Kathleen Bliss Goldfarb in the Cleveland area, Karen Volpert in the western suburbs of Philadelphia and Jennifer Manley in the Fort Worth, Texas, area.
"These new owners add exceptional design experience to our company," said Carol Bugg, Decorating Den's vice president for design. "Kathleen as been a design consultant for Ethan Allen and has had her own design consultancy, Karen also has had her own firm, and Jennifer has traveled the world as a photographer and performed design work."
Jim Bugg Jr., president and CEO of Decorating Den, said the company has grown despite the slow economy.
"While other segments of the home furnishings business have contracted, we have been consistently recruiting qualified people for business ownership or sales/design positions within our units," he said. "We are finding that our low-overhead business model that serves customers with value, convenience and a large array of products is attractive to those with previous home furnishings experience....
"Our concept of designing right in the client's home and not having the burden of bricks and mortar and inventory overhead is very appealing to those who have previously worked in those environments," he added. "Also, for the person who was an independent designer previously, we have the training and support for marketing, business management and growing a larger business."
He also said that the company's master license program, in its second year, has added to the company's formula for growth.
Decorating Den Interiors was founded in 1969 and has been led by the Bugg family since 1984. Jim Bugg Sr. is chairman and Carol Donayre Bugg, in addition to serving as vice president and director of design, is the author of five books on decorating.
