Barcalounger goes outdoor

MORRISTOWN, Tenn. – Motion upholstery resource Barcalounger will launch an outdoor living brand at the fall High Point Market.

Offering five full collections, 50 furniture pieces and a 20-piece decorative pillow program, Barcalounger Outdoor Living (BOL) is the result of a North American and global licensing agreement between Camarillo, Calif.-based outdoor furniture specialist Pacific Casual and motion upholstery specialist Barcalounger.

The collections feature upscale and mixed media seating and dining designs in the medium to upper-medium price points. BOL motion pieces include several reclining chairs, large swivel rocking lounge chairs, swivel host chairs with a 360-degree auto-return mechanism and a sofa with left- and right-arm facing recliners.

All recliners feature Leggett & Platt weather-proof outdoor mechanisms. According to Barcalounger CEO and President Larry Smith, Leggett & Platt and designers collaborated in the development of BOL motion.

BOL is also offering a 20-piece decorative pillow program in three sizes, sold separately to give consumers a way to personalize their furnishings through mixing and matching pillows.

“We are looking to align with our current distribution base, including strong regional chains, national chains, independent furniture stores and outdoor furniture specialists,” said Smith.

BOL will be sold in the U.S. through Barcalounger sales representatives and serviced through Barcalounger Outdoor Living. This will include a dedicated phone and Internet contact for ordering parts and replacement parts, point-of-purchase materials and for handling customer service inquiries.

Available for delivery in late February 2018, BOL will be warehoused in North Carolina and California distribution centers for quick shipment, and Smith said 95% of orders out of the warehouse ship in 72 hours.

“This is a speed-to-market advantage in the outdoor furniture segment. Typically, a specialty-store-grade outdoor furniture product like this has a six- to 12-week shipment time,” said Rick Stephens, president of Pacific Casual.

Pacific Casual is managing the design, product development and production of the line, which is produced in Asia and available from both warehouses and direct container. Orders of interior and outdoor furniture can be mixed from Barcalounger.

The outdoor living brand will debut at the upcoming October High Point Market in a new 2,500-square-foot showroom at the International Home Furnishings Center, H-633, the result of an expanded Barcalounger showroom.
