Vaughan-Bassett to donate 150,000 tree seedlings

GALAX, Va. — Wood furniture manufacturer Vaughan-Bassett has purchased 150,000 tree seedlings from the Virginia Department of Forestry to donate to planting projects by forest landowners, schools and other groups in the state, according to the Smith Mountain (Va.) Eagle.
The seedlings will be planted in the spring.
Since the introduction of the company's 1-4-1 program in 2007, Vaughan-Bassett has donated 750,000 trees.
The program is the brainchild of Vaughan-Bassett Chairman John Bassett, with the intent to donate one seedling for every tree the company harvests for use in making bedroom furniture.
"We make 99% of our furniture in our Virginia and North Carolina factories, so we feel a special responsibility to make our bedroom furniture in the most environmentally responsible way we can," Bassett said.
