Midwest Furniture Club sets dates for trade show, golf tournament
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 30, 2011
CHICAGO — The Midwest Furniture Club has announced several events for 2012, including dates for the Midwest Furniture Show in September and the Bill Krause golf outing in June.
The organization, one of the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.'s largest affiliates, also elected new officers at its general meeting in November. Mike Mackey will serve a one-year term as president and Ted Weisbach moves to chairman of the board.
Hank Holste, David Marcus, Bob Cremer and Mitch Simon also were elected officers, and members chose six new board members.
The Midwest Furniture Show will return to the Schaumburg Convention Center in the Chicago suburb of Schaumburg, Ill., Sept. 6-7. The club is taking deposits for exhibitors at this year's show and is beginning to work on the floor plan.
"We are getting a jumpstart on the show due to a lot of inquiries from last year's exhibitors," said Geoff Weed, show coordinator. "Many of our exhibitors are returning, and we are currently contacting the exhibitors on our waiting list to make sure they are aware of our deadlines and improvements to the show. We've also moved the show to September so our dealers can focus on planning the fourth quarter and tax time with their important vendors."
The 10th annual Bill Krause Charity Golf Outing will take place June 19. It will benefit the Alexander Graham Bell Montessori School & Alternatives for the Hearing Impaired, a cause supported by the Krause family. Bill Krause was a longtime member and past president of the Midwest Furniture Club and a representative for Century Furniture.
"We are going to be returning to Whisper Creek in Huntley, where we held the event last year," said Mark Dilling, who is spearheading the planning effort. "Our membership and retailers enjoyed a great day of golf, a charity raffle as well as a fun and social dinner. We are looking forward to another great outing."
Other plans for the year include an IHFRA benefits meeting in February, a Dealer Appreciation Day at Arlington Race Track, summer outing opportunities and continued support for the annual City of Hope event held yearly in Chicago.
