WARWICK, R.I. — Jordan's Furniture new 115,000-square-foot store here drew more than 35,000 customers during its first week as it opened with a Las Vegas-style entertainment feature, the company said.
The two-level store, Jordan's fifth location, joined Macy's, Target and JCPenney as an anchor tenant at Warwick Mall.
In addition to its full line of midpriced furniture, a Furniture Factory Outlet, Sleep Lab bedding department and Paul's TV electronics area, the retailer introduced Splash, a combination water-laser-video show.
The Boston-area retailer, part of Berkshire Hathaway's furniture division, opened the store with a free 12-minute holiday-themed show inside the store, near the Sleep Lab. Splash features more than 9,000 water nozzles, digital surround sound and state of the art lasers.
Spokeswoman Heather Copelas said the holiday show will run through January, and future shows will include rock music and tributes to the Rat Pack and Michael Jackson.
In a release, Jordan's President and CEO Eliot Tatelman said the show "is going to be nothing like anyone has ever seen before - not even in Vegas."
The Taunton, Mass.-based company declined to disclose its investment or projected sales. Jordan's hired about 85 employees for the new location.
Its other stores in Reading, Natick and Avon, Mass., and Nashua, N.H., also mix furniture shopping with entertainment, including a motion-simulation movie theater, a Mardi Gras show, a jellybean city and an Imax 3D theater.
