Furniture imports climb 7% in November
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 5, 2012
HIGH POINT — U.S. imports surged in November due to an increase in furniture shipments, according to data from PIERS, the shipment tracking organization.
U.S. containerized imports were up 5% in November from the same month a year earlier, with furniture imports up 7% to 144,823 twenty-foot-equivalent units, a story in The Journal of Commerce reported.
Furniture is the largest category of container imports and the increase in furniture imports followed eight months of year-over-year declines in the category. An economist with the Journal said the increase could be an indicator of an improving housing market and economy.
