Vi Konkle becomes president and CEO of The Brick
Bill Gregson moves to executive chairman of retailer's board
Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, January 5, 2012
EDMONTON, Alberta — Vi Konkle has taken over as president and CEO of The Brick Group, succeeding Bill Gregson, who now becomes executive chairman of the publicly held retailer's board of directors under the terms of a succession plan announced this past April.
Konkle joined The Brick in February 2010 in the new position of president of business support.
Prior to joining Canada's largest full-line furniture and appliance retailer, Konkle held a number of positions with grocer Loblaws Cos. and mass merchant Wal-Mart Canada, where she was chief operating officer.
As executive chairman, Gregson, succeeds longtime Brick chairman Ron D. Barbaro, who remains on the board. Konkle is not a director.
"Vi has demonstrated strong leadership and retail acumen at The Brick and I am confident that she will lead the Brick team to continued growth, profitability and relevance to the Canadian customer," said Gregson.
Konkle's promotion means two of Canada's top five furniture retailers are now led by women — the other being Ikea Canada, whose president is Kerri Molinaro.
