Furniture Brands settles design infringement case against Pulaski
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, January 6, 2012
THOMASVILLE, N.C. — Furniture Brands International announced it has reached a settlement in a design patent infringement case against Pulaski Furniture, with Pulaski agreeing to stop selling certain products.
FBI filed a lawsuit in 2009 claiming that Pulaski's Toscano Vialetto bedroom collection had copied elements from the Hills of Tuscany collection by Thomasville Furniture, a Furniture Brands company, on which it held design patents.
Furniture Brands said that as part of the settlement, Pulaski has agreed to stop selling the furniture addressed in the lawsuit, other than fulfilling existing orders and phasing out remaining inventory.
Furniture Brands also had sought financial damages, but officials did not reveal any other financial details of the settlement.
"We are pleased to have resolved this matter, and once again, reinforce Thomasville's steadfast commitment to its unique designs," said Thomasville Furniture President Ed Teplitz in a statement.
A Pulaski executive declined to comment on the case.
