MONTERREY, Mexico — A fire that broke out at a Famsa furniture warehouse here Wednesday killed six people and injured another 44, according to local news reports.
Details on the cause of the fire were not immediately available. However, an online report from Channel 6 News said a spark from a machine on the third floor of the building may have caused the blaze.
The warehouse facility is part of a Famsa store near Alfonso Reyes Avenue in Monterrey.
Woodworking Network said Famsa, which also is a Top 100 furniture store chain in the U.S., relocated about 300 workers to another plant.
The U.S. division of Famsa had 51 stores in California, Texas, Illinois, Arizona and Nevada in 2010, according to Furniture/Today's latest Top 100 ranking. It operates 359 stores in Mexico, Woodworking Network reported.
