Broyhill adding wood groups to mixed container program

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, January 2, 2012

Broyhill’sBroyhill’s updated Louis Philippe-influenced Farnsworth is among the groups included in the mixed container program. Part of Essentials, it comes in an inky black stain finish. Another nine bedroom and dining room groups will be added to the program and will begin shipping in March.LENOIR, N.C. - Broyhill Furniture is expanding its container direct mixability program to all of its bedroom and dining room collections as part of a plan to offer retailers greater variety and flexibility with their orders.
Until now, the two-year-old program has been limited to Broyhill's Essentials line of opening priced bedrooms and casual dining sets.
During the first quarter, the company will add nine bedroom and dining room collections from its regular case goods line to the program. Over time, the goal is to offer all new and existing collections in the program.
"Being able to offer a direct program to our retail partners is a win-win-win situation in that it represents a substantial savings to our retailers, which we believe translates into lower prices for consumers, while reducing our operating cost," said Mark Stephens, Broyhill president.
"However, more than ever before, our retailers are understandably reluctant to purchase full containers of one product due to the carrying cost of what could potentially be several months' worth of inventory. By launching this program, we believe the benefits of a direct program are now available to a much larger portion of our customers without risk of carrying excessive inventory," he said.
The product will be shipped from Vietnam in about 90 days from the time of order. The company plans to allow customers to change the mix of the order until 30 days of the targeted shipment date from Asia.
As the program grows, the company also plans to reduce lead times to 60 days and eventually 30 days, said Fran Scheller, who oversees Broyhill's case goods program.
The company is taking orders now with initial orders expected to ship in March.
Broyhill also will add more starting priced Essentials dining collections over the long term, officials said, and plans to add home entertainment and occasional to the mixability program.
