ADAIRSVILLE, Ga. - Chandra Rugs has acquired and restored an 85,000-squarefoot warehousing facility next to its existing location here at 1067 Union Grove Road SE.
"Business is booming and we like to be organized to handle it," said Ravi Tiwari, vice president. "Our business has outgrown its existing space."
Executives at Chandra have been planning to acquire the new facility since the company moved into its existing 95,000-square-foot location when it was founded five years ago, Tiwari said. When the new facility became available this past summer, the company seized the opportunity to obtain a second warehouse.
Tiwari said that Chandra continually looks to identify and develop more efficient warehousing practices to decrease product turnaround time through better organization and expanded capabilities.
"We've learned so many lessons from our old building, which we've carried into renovating the new space," he said. "We're so much more organized now."
Tiwari said that he draws warehousing and shipping efficiency inspiration from companies like Dell and Amazon.
In addition to helping the company handle its growing business, the new facility will help Chandra fulfill its increasing number of drop-ship commitments. Tiwari said that a majority of Chandra's business is now drop-ship and that the company provides many customers that option, to help them sell more product with less investment upfront.
Tiwari also said that the company plans to expand into product categories other than rugs, although he did not say which ones. Currently, rugs account for approximately 98% of the company's business, according to Michael Heath, sales manager, with the remainder consisting of pillows and poufs.
