Durham Furniture renews license for Mount Vernon line

DURHAM, Ontario — Durham Furniture has renewed its licensing agreement with the Mount Vernon Ladies Assn., the custodians of George Washington's estate, meaning the solid wood case goods specialist will continue to produce bedroom furniture, occasional tables and accent pieces inspired by the home of the first U.S. president.
Durham has been producing a licensed Mount Vernon collection since 2005, when it rolled out the George Washington Architect collection, which remains one of the company's bestselling groups.
Two additions to the Mount Vernon collection will be unveiled at the Canadian Home Furnishings Market, which opens Saturday in Toronto, and at the spring High Point Market.
"We are extremely proud of our relationship with Mount Vernon; it has been a great partnership for both of us," Durham President and CEO Gord Dilworth said in a statement. "As you will see at the upcoming Toronto show and again at the April High Point Market we plan on being very aggressive in Mount Vernon-inspired products.
"Although some of the new introductions will be different product than our dealers have seen before, we are confident the dealers that have supported the Mount Vernon program will be extremely pleased," he said.
"When I first walked into the Durham showroom, I felt that if George Washington was alive, he would have purchased Durham Furniture for his home," added Beverly Addington, director of licensing for the Mount Vernon Ladies Assn. "Through this turbulent financial time we remain dedicated to developing authentic product selections which send a portion of the profits to Mount Vernon."
The association provided historic resources that aided Durham in the design and development of the Mount Vernon collection, said Dave Pinamonti, Durham vice president of business development.
