Levin opens 1st smaller format store in Wheeling, Ohio, area

levinST. CLAIRSVILLE, Ohio -- Levin Furniture and Mattress opened its first small-format store in St. Clairsville, Ohio, today, expanding outside into the greater Wheeling, Ohio, area with a full-line showroom.

The Smithton, Pa.-based Top 100 company took the space of a former Hhgregg for the 21,000-square-foot showroom at Ohio Valley Shopping Center in St. Clairsville, southwest of Pittsburgh and west of Wheeling.

The store will employ up to 20 people and is about one-third the size of the average full-line store for the retailer — now with 33 Levin Furniture and Levin Mattress stores in greater Northeastern Ohio and Southwestern Pennsylvania.

“It’s our first small scale format, and we’re extremely excited about its potential,” said Chris Pelcher, senior vice president of merchandising, sales, marketing and e-commerce for the third-generation mid-priced chain. “Although it’s physically smaller than our other locations, the way it’s laid out makes it feel much much bigger.”

Pelcher describe the interior as “extremely warm and inviting” and said Levin is showcasing its best sellers here, along with new arrivals and latest merchandising strategies.

Among the key suppliers and brands to the new store are Flexsteel, Klaussner, England and Vaughan-Bassett. The store feature a new Made in America area with locally produced Amish furniture among other goods, the retailer’s successful Furniture Express Outlet concept and a large Levin Mattress department featuring brands such as Sealy, Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster, Serta and Levin’s private label Grand Legacy brand.

“St. Clairsville and the greater Wheeling area are great communities, and we are excited to be part of the economic redevelopment in the region,” CEO Robert Levin said in a release. “Our new location will bring employment opportunities and draw visitors from surrounding communities. We will offer something for everyone at almost every price point.”

At the ribbon cutting today, Levin is presenting a $15,000 check to the American Red Cross to support hurricane relief efforts and those in need throughout the area it operates.

The grand opening festivities, which continue through the weekend, include opening specials and registration for prize giveaways including a $10,000 shopping spree and Ford F-150 truck.

Levin in ranked No. 39 on Furniture Today’s latest Top 100 with estimated 2016 furniture, bedding and accessory sale of $218.3 million at 14 full-line and 18 mattress stores.
