American West expands facilities, services
Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, January 16, 2012
LOS OSNOS, Calif. — Specialized furniture carrier American West has assumed control of all services, equipment and facilities in California that had been operated by Worldwide Logistics.
The change in control - part of an agreement signed by the two carriers last fall - allows American West to service WWL's California customers for outbound shipments.
In addition, American West will service WWL's east coast customers who have shipments to California, and also will handle all line-haul and distribution within the state on its own trucks and terminals.
WWL recently closed its Riverside, Calif. terminal, and those operations were moved to American West's 285,000-square-foot terminal in Ontario, Calif.
American West CEO Josh Brown said his company has hired several drivers and key managers who worked at the Riverside facility, and also purchased numerous tractors and trailers from the six trucking companies that make up WWL.
"We look forward to continuing to enhance and expand our services to the furniture industry as we move ahead, and to capitalizing on additional opportunities for growth as they arise," Brown said.
Brown said his family-owned company is now the largest furniture carrier in the state.
