Hillside Furniture's Home Entertainment Expo to benefit cancer charity
Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, January 16, 2012
BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. — Hillside Furniture will host its second Home Entertainment Expo at its Telegraph Road store here Jan. 28-29, donating a portion of proceeds to the charity Kids Kicking Cancer.
During the event, Hillside's staff and visiting experts from the furniture and electronics industry will discuss and present demos of the latest in home entertainment, the contemporary retailer said in a release. Attendees will learn about emerging technologies and how home entertainment furniture is evolving to keep up.
More than $10,000 in furniture and accessories have been donated by Hillside's suppliers to be given away. The retailer received donations from suppliers such as Somerset Studios, Howard Elliott, Howard Miller, Lazar, Boliya USA, Nova Lighting and Foreign Accents.
Other goods will be sold at discounts with proceeds going to the charity. Ekornes donated a home theater sectional valued at $9,250 that will be sold off with the majority of the proceeds going to the charity, said Jeff Selik, Hillside president.
Hillside also has received support from local companies donating pizza and gourmet cupcakes.
"It should be a fun, informative, mouthwatering sales event benefitting a worthwhile charitable cause," Selik said.
Visiting experts from the retailer's partner in electronic installations in the Detroit area, New Age Entertainment, will bring in "the latest and greatest in home electronics," Selik said. "From the home furnishings world, we will have manufacturer representatives from several lines including BDI, American Leather, Ekornes and Lazar."
Kids Kicking Cancer helps children with cancer manage the stress and pain of their disease and treatments through personalized coaching instructed by black belt martial artists.
"Cancer is the leading cause of death and disease for children under the age of 15," Selik said. "Kids Kicking Cancer eases the pain of very sick children while empowering them to heal physically, spiritually, and emotionally."
