CFMA honors Fairmont, Hanes Inds.' Sanchez

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. - California Furniture Manufacturers Assn. members celebrated the organization's 100th anniversary at its annual holiday party here last month, where it also presented awards and installed a new president.
Established in 1911, the CFMA is one of the oldest trade associations in the state, having helped protect the interests of the furniture industry for a century. Picture boards at the holiday event let CFMA members stroll through the group's history.
CFMA President John Grootegoed of Elite Leather Furniture gave the 2011 President's Award to Jon Sanchez of Hanes Inds. for his dedication to the association. Sanchez is president of the California Furnishings Suppliers Assn., the supplier chapter of the CFMA.
Named Manufacturer of the Year was Fairmont Seating. Brian Edwards, president of Fairmont Designs, accepted the award on behalf of company Chairman George Tsai.

"These are very challenging times for all of us, but George Tsai, the owner of Fairmont Designs, is committed to U.S. manufacturing and is extremely proud to have received this award," said Edwards. He said Tsai believes that creating jobs in the U.S. and in California "is critical to being part of the recovery that is happening in the United States today."
The association also presented Grootegoed with a gift as his duties as 2011 CFMA president ended and gave flowers to his wife, Gabrielle Galardo, vice president of marketing for Elite Leather, in appreciation of her support of CFMA.
Edwards of Fairmont Designs was installed as the 2012 president.
"I look forward to working with the team to strengthen our membership and the organization in the coming year," he said.
