N.Y., N.J. associations present annual awards

SUFFERN, N.J. - About 200 members and guests of the Metropolitan Furnishings Assn. of New Jersey and the Greater New York Home Furnishings Assn. attended the second annual dinner and dance gala held jointly by the groups.
This year's honorees at the Dec. 3 event at the Crowne Plaza Hotel here were Patrick Cory of Cory 1st Choice Home Delivery, Edward Massood of Thomasville Home Furnishings of New Jersey, Brad Pyne of AICO and Russell Bienenstock of Furniture World Magazine.
In addition, Alan Granetz was given a surprise honor as The Greatest Executive Director of the MFA of N.J., recognizing his 28 years of service to the group.

The two organizations of retailers, representatives and industry service providers are expected to merge in about 30 days, with the new group to be called the Greater Metropolitan Furniture Assn. Granetz will lead the combined groups.
Massood, president of the Thomasville dealer, received GNYHFA's Jerry Gans Memorial Award, going to a person who has distinguished himself with deeds and service.
Cory, managing partner at the family-owned Cory 1st, received MFA's Howard Liveright Memorial Award, which honors a person who has made outstanding contributions in the industry.
Bienenstock, editor in chief and CEO of Furniture World Magazine, and Pyne, who represents AICO and Synergy Home Furnishings, received the Charles B. Costar Dean of IHFRA Award, given to individuals who have set an example through service and dedication to the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn. and their chapter.
Abe Feinblum, business manager for Julius M. Feinblum Real Estate in Plainview, N.Y., and this year's president of GNYHFA, called the event a great success, noting that it attracted area retailers, reps and suppliers as well as out-of-town guests from companies and organizations such as AICO, Cory and City of Hope.
