Computer time at night can affect good sleep
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 16, 2012
This week we continue our look at how technology in the bedroom can make for sleepless nights and drowsy days.
Sleep experts advise consumers to wind down as they prepare for sleep. But the National Sleep Foundation found that many consumers are packing many activities into that final hour of the day before they try to go to sleep, including watching videos on their computers or laptops, listening to music on them, and using social networking sites.
The NSF's look at computer use in that final hour before trying to go to sleep reveals that younger consumers are significantly more likely to log on at least a few nights a week than older consumers.
This is the kind of customized information that savvy retail sales associates can use to connect with consumers of various ages. Knowledge of consumer behavior positions the RSAs as experts in their field, and that helps those RSAs gain trust from their customers.
And the RSAs can help consumers of all ages to sleep better by cautioning them to turn the bedroom into a sleep sanctuary at night, rather than a bustling home office. As the computer statistics cited here show, computers and laptops are right at home in the bedroom, and the research shows that consumers who regularly use their computers and laptops in the hour before trying to go to sleep are less likely to report getting a good night of sleep.
