Alfred J. Perri, retired retailer in Michigan
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 23, 2012
MUSKEGON, Mich. - Alfred J. "Al" Perri, a longtime retailer here, has died at age 88.
Perri, who served in the Army during World War II, opened Al Perri Furniture in 1969. He ran the store until 2006, when he closed it and retired.
In an interview with The (Muskegon) Chronicle in 1986, Perri said one of the major reasons behind the store's success was its credit program.
"A lot of the community's older folks aren't able to plunk down a large amount of money at one time ... so we let them pay a little each month," Perri told the paper. "And when the Social Security checks are mailed, we get people lined up seven, eight deep to pay their bills. Makes you feel good."
In his spare time, Perri enjoyed University of Notre Dame sports and traveling with his late wife, Alice.
He is survived by one brother and several nieces and nephews.
