High Point Market to relocate Media Center, International Buyer Center
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 1, 2012
HIGH POINT - Reporters covering the High Point Market in April will find a new and expanded Media Center at a former location, the High Point Theater.
Also moving to the theater will be the International Buyer Center.
In recent years the Media Center has been on the plaza level of Showplace West, a few blocks from the International Home Furnishings Center. At the High Point Theater, which is next to the market's Transportation Terminal and the Commerce Avenue entrance to the IHFC, the media center will be on the top floor and the International Buyer Center will be in the ground floor gallery.
"With both international buyer and press attendance growing significantly at market, the new location adds much-needed room for both the Media Center and the IBC," said Tammy Nagem, chief operating officer of the High Point Market Authority. "There will be more workspace and a separate dining area for both groups."
The IBC is a lounge for international buyers includes a currency exchange, a business center and more. The Media Center and offers services and work areas for media members.
"The media who attend market will appreciate this return to their former Media Center space," said Cheminne Taylor-Smith, vice president of marketing for the Market Authority. "The central location is key for reporters and editors who try to cover 10.5 million square feet of market in a short time period. Unlike the previous setup in the theater, though, the Media Center will be on the top floor where there is more room for the exhibitor media kits, lockers and computers provided by the market for the press."
The spring market runs April 21-26.
