International Furniture Direct opens Chicago distribution center
Heath E Combs -- Furniture Today, February 2, 2012
PHOENIX - Mixed media and solid wood case goods supplier International Furniture Direct has opened a distribution center in Chicago to offer lower freight rates and improved lead times to Midwest and Northeast dealers.
The company is now able to offer the same warehouse pricing programs from Chicago as it offers from Phoenix and Houston, according to Diana Zaldivar, sales development manager.
The warehouse, which opened in January, is currently shipping orders and receiving stock from IFD's factories.
Zaldivar said the pricing is competitive because goods are shipped to Chicago by rail from the company's factory in Guadalajara, Mexico. Transit time from the factory to Chicago is seven to eight business days, she said.
"Growing our dealer base in the U.S. Northeast is also one of our goals for 2012," Zaldivar said.
The company expects its Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota and Wisconsin dealers will benefit from the warehouse and that its dealer base will grow in Michigan, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Indiana and Ohio, she said.
At this week's Las Vegas Market, the company is showing in World Market Center C-1389.
