Jordan's Furniture helps kids play ball

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 3, 2012

BOSTON — Jordan's Furniture is bringing back its Double Play youth baseball program, which aims to supply "gently used" baseball and softball equipment to inner-city youth, the Boston Globe reports.

The effort is conducted in partnership with the Boston Red Sox Foundation and seeks to help more than 2,000 young ball players, the Top 100 store said.

"In this day and age of pay-to-play, there are thousands of kids that just cannot afford to play sports," Eliot Tatelman, president and CEO of Jordan's Furniture, said in a statement.

The retailer is asking that people drop off metal bats, new baseballs and softballs, and other equipment at its stores in Reading, Avon and Natick, Mass.; Nashua, N.H.; and Warwick, R.I., or at the company's distribution center in Taunton, Mass.
