Classic Home bringing 100 intros to Vegas

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, January 30, 2012

Classic Home’s solidClassic Home’s solid pine Essex dining table is 98 by 43 inches and is shown in an antique white finish. It retails at $2,247.LAS VEGAS - Case goods and upholstery manufacturer Classic Home will have one of the larger introductions at market here this week with about 100 new items.
Spanning several collections, about half the new pieces are upholstery and the rest are wood, including beds, dining tables, occasional tables and home entertainment pieces.
It's not unheard of for the company to have a large introduction in Las Vegas. However, its introductions more typically fall in the 50-75 piece range, said Thomas Andonian, general manager.
The wood pieces are primarily produced in the company's Indian production facilities, while upholstery items - including sofas, loveseats and chairs - are mainly sourced in China. The new upholstery items are in linen and linen/cotton blend fabrics.
More than a dozen new benches, ottomans and other pieces are upholstered in kilim, a woven wool rug fabric with a distinct geometric pattern. Most pieces are intended for use as seating or as a cocktail type table, Andonian said.
On the wood side, the introductions are primarily in dining, occasional and case goods, such as chests and sideboards.
Roma is a five-piece group with media pieces and buffet storage units made with reclaimed woods from old buildings, storage yards and shipyards. The pieces also feature cast iron grill accents. The wood has a natural, distressed finish with color accents, while the grill work is in a painted antique wash finish.
Avalon is a six-piece group whose pieces includes a bed, a buffet, a trunk chest and a storage cube. It too is made with reclaimed woods similar to those used in Roma. Pieces have a natural finish, Andonian said.
Wood pieces retail from around $199 for an accent stool to a mid-range price of about $1,199 for a sideboard, he said.
Goods are expected to ship sometime in the spring and hit retail by late spring.
The company occupies about 17,000 square feet in two spaces across the hall from one another on the third floor of Building C.
"It is a very eclectic mix," Andonian said of the introductions, adding that Classic Home has remained fairly aggressive with its intros in spite of the economy.
"For one, we know that is why customers go to trade shows, to see new products," he said. "It is also important for us to understand what they are responding to.
"For us, it defines the essence of trade shows more than ever. We have seen a lot of companies being stagnant in the last couple of years. When the economy got soft, we instead took risks and brought out a lot of new product. Our customers are energized by that," he said.
Andonian added that the company had a successful show in Atlanta earlier this month.
"If that is any indication (of what to expect), we are really excited by Las Vegas," he said.
