GoodBed.com will help industry target consumers

SAN FRANCISCO - Mattress shoppers have a new place to find and share information about sleep sets online with the launch of GoodBed.com.
The site was launched by Revv Media, a publisher of digital media properties based here. It marks the next generation of consumer mattress research sites and is an upgrade from the company's first online mattress consumer guide, the Best Bed Guide, officials said.
GoodBed.com says it reaches an average of 100,000 mattress shoppers each month. The shoppers are using the site primarily to find consumer reviews, product information and nearby stores, while mattress retailers and manufacturers use it as a media channel to reach consumers considering their next mattress purchase, officials said.
The site was founded by Michael Magnuson, a former media-focused private equity investor who said he saw an opportunity to better serve consumers and advertisers in big-ticket categories such as mattresses.
"Traditional consumer media - such as television, radio and newspapers - have been a difficult and expensive way to find and influence consumers that are actively in the market for a new mattress," he said. "But with 80% of consumers researching their mattress purchase online, we knew we could create a better way for mattress companies to advertise more efficiently and effectively."
As part of the new platform, GoodBed is releasing new marketing tools for mattress companies that are designed to help retailers and manufacturers attract qualified prospects on the website. The new tools, which are free, enable businesses to engage with mattress shoppers on GoodBed, whether by promoting special offers, providing information or responding to reviews.
Each retailer and manufacturer is given a profile page on GoodBed.com where consumers can find information about their stores and products. Companies that register with GoodBed.com to "claim" their profile can add or update information about their stores and products, receive email notifications when there is activity on the profile such as a new mattress review, and see real-time statistics on how many mattress shoppers are viewing their profile pages.
"The feedback from businesses that have claimed their GoodBed business profile has been enthusiastic," Magnuson said. "We are already seeing smart retailers and manufacturers generate incremental sales by encouraging their customers to submit reviews on GoodBed, and linking to their GoodBed profile as a marketing and reputation management tool."
He said the site gives consumers "a trusted, independent source for mattress information."
GoodBed says it has reached more than 1.5 million mattress shoppers since its initial launch as Best Bed Guide in August 2009.
Magnuson, the founder of Revv Media, was a principal of Waller Sutton Capital, a New York-based private equity firm focused on the media and communications sectors. While there he was responsible for the acquisition of Discover Magazine from Disney. He is also a founder and general partner of Westward Capital Management, a media-focused private equity investment firm based in San Francisco.
