HIGH POINT - The High Point Market Authority has added six new members to its board of directors, including a new seat to represent the design community.
New board members include:
► John Bray of Vanguard Furniture, who is joining the board and the executive committee. He represents home furnishings showroom operators
► Kevin Archer of Courtyard by Marriott, a nonvoting liaison as current chair of the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau. He is replacing Jim Morgan, whose term expired.
► George Clopton of Polo Ralph Lauren, a nonvoting liaison as current chair of the High Point Chamber of Commerce. He is replacing Jim Huntley, whose term expired.
► Jena Hall of Jena Hall Designs, a nonvoting liaison representing the design community.
► Mike Huber of Dulles, Va.-based Belfort Furniture, representing the retail community. He is replacing Keith Koenig of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.-based City Furniture.
► Lynn Underwood of Centers of High Point, representing showroom building owners. She has taken the seat once held by the late Lynn Davis.
"Having a representative of the design community on the board fills a void that we had in our board's representation," said Tom Conley, president and CEO of the Market Authority, which manages the semiannual High Point Market. "Jena Hall's experience and expertise will add another viewpoint to help the Market Authority continue to grow and improve what we offer to each of the market's stakeholders."
The full board of directors now includes executive committee members Kevin O'Connor, Samson Marketing, board chairman; Doug Bassett, Vaughan-Bassett, vice chairman; Tom Mitchell, International Market Centers, treasurer; High Point Mayor Becky Smothers, and Bray.
Other voting board members are Huber, Underwood and Tom Dayvault, High Point Chamber of Commerce; Heinz Kattenfeld, 220 Elm; and Tim Mabe, High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Liaison members of the board, in addition to Clopton, Archer and Hall, include Britt Moore and Foster Douglas, High Point city council members; Bruce Davis, a Guilford County board of commissioners member; Steve DeHaan, National Home Furnishings Assn.; Rick Gillispie, International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.; and Loren Hill, High Point Economic Development Corp.
Ex officio members of the board are Conley and Strib Boynton, High Point's city manager.
Seats formerly held by Lisa Shankle of Showplace and Brian Bunch of Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. were consolidated due to the International Market Centers' purchase of those two buildings.
