Specialized carriers face pressure

Retailers must work with carriers to maintain service levels

HIGH POINT – Specialized truckers serving the furniture industry are under a deadline next month for compliance with electronic log devices that record drivers’ hours of service.

Gone are the days when drivers who are running behind might hedge a bit on daily logs in order to complete scheduled deliveries.

Couple that with an ongoing shortage of drivers, and retailers who don’t try to accommodate the new realities of the LTL business for furniture could be looking at limited service – in extreme cases no service at all – from carriers experienced in the special needs of furniture handling.
