DANBURY, Conn. — Ethan Allen looked around the world and to historical styles for its new Passport collection, which debuted at the vertically integrated company’s Ethan Allen Design Centers and online early this month.

Passport is drawn from looks past and present, near and far: from India’s hand-knotted rugs to campaign-style dressers, from Ming Dynasty-inspired display cabinets to occasional tables that hint at pagodas, from woven rattan chairs designed in the rich tradition of British Colonial style to Otami-inspired artwork.

The collection spans all product categories, with a focus on transitional, globally inspired furniture and décor for bedroom, living room, dining room, home office and entertaining spaces.

In case goods and upholstery, 42 new items are available in a wide range of custom finishes and fabrics. More than 150 new fabrics and leathers were introduced to support Passport.

In addition, Ethan Allen has added 300 new pieces across the full scope of its accents program, which includes area rugs, home textiles, mattresses, lighting, artwork and decorative accessories.

Sample retails include the Beacon occasional group, starting at an “Everyday Best Price” of $749. Upholstery includes a tremendous range of styles and designs, with the Astor 90-inch shelter-framed sofa starting at $2,499 and the Madie ottoman starting at $339. In home textiles, duvet covers start at $229, and well-priced accents start at $19.

“We created Passport as a celebration of cultural influences from around the world. It’s designed to ‘wow’ while also being warm, authentic and livable,” said Farooq Kathwari, president, chairman and CEO, Ethan Allen Interiors Inc. “Our designers focused on every detail, bringing in exquisite textures, fabrics and patterns. We hope it brings home the feeling of having been somewhere wonderful.”

Passport blends new furnishing and décor options with in-line favorites. Other new offerings include the deep-seated, English inspired, clubby Malone chair; the curvaceous Corin dining table; and the Callum home office line that recalls the simplicity and efficiency of British campaign style.

Another Passport highlight is its selection of home bar offerings: the Carys, a Spanish Colonial-style bar cabinet with ample storage and prep space; and the Lora, a tropically inspired, small-scale open rattan bar.

For the bedroom, Passport unveils the versatile upholstered Colton bed, available in multiple headboard heights and styles; with multiple base options, including a platform with a spacious storage drawer; and with multiple high-performance fabric and leather choices. Passport also incorporates a new generation of accessories, including colorful, textured pillows, artwork inspired by global motifs, and all-new lighting and decorative accents.

Ethan Allen offers complimentary interior design service to its clients and sells a full range of furniture products and decorative accessories through ethanallen.com and a network of approximately 300 Design Centers in the United States and abroad.

I'm Powell Slaughter, senior editor at Furniture/Today. I returned to the publication in January 2015 after nine years of writing about furniture retail strategies and best practices at a monthly magazine focusing on home furnishings retail operations. Prior to that, I spent 10 years with F/T covering wood furniture, the last five of those as case goods editor. While I cover occasional, home entertainment and home office here, a major responsibility is expanding our attention to the logistics side of the industry. I hope my articles will encourage a dialogue with retailers, vendors, third-party logistics specialists and carriers. I’d love to hear your ideas, concerns and suggestions for smoother flow of material and goods.
