New contemporary furniture show set for Copenhagen
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, February 9, 2012
COPENHAGEN, Denmark — A new furniture show focusing on contemporary Scandinavian designs is planned in Copenhagen later this year.
The fair, called DNA, is set for Sept. 6-9 in a 150,000-square-foot warehouse facility in the center of Copenhagen called Lokomotivvaerkstedet. The first show is expected to have at least 60 exhibitors, 75% of which are expected to be Scandinavian brands.
The term DNA is used to describe the innovative and design-driven nature of contemporary and modern Nordic furniture. Organizers say the event will be an "important step on the path to establishing Copenhagen as an epicenter for high quality design of that kind that caters to a demanding audience."
"The DNA fair focuses on quality and not quantity, which makes it different from other events in the same category," Michael Anker, the Danish CEO of Italian lighting resource Luceplan, said in a statement. "It is a platform for the companies that are thinking ahead and doing really well. With the fair at Lokomotivvaerkstedet, we now have the optimal setting for Nordic brands to show the world what they do so well - and for international brands as Luceplan to show their work in this high quality context."
A marketing representative for the show said DNA is not a replacement of any other show. For years, Copenhagen has been the site of the Copenhagen International Furniture Fair, which last year was called CODE 11 - Copenhagen Design Fair. According to a show website it was last held Sept. 1-4, 2011. The site did not mention dates for 2012.
That show drew as many as 300 exhibitors in the early 2000s.
