Since opening the first location in 2005, Fineman and the HomeStores here have expanded their charity outreach with groups and programs such as A Hope to Dream, The Donna Foundation fighting breast cancer, the Salvation Army and the Greater Jacksonville Area USO. Fineman accepted the honor on behalf of his team during the Las Vegas Market.
"Nobody cares how much you know, until they know how much you care," is a Fineman motto.
"The Ashley Furniture HomeStore brand is based on four pillars: value, quality, style and selection," Fineman said. "But here in Jacksonville our team has a fifth pillar, which is giving back locally, and that pillar defines who we are here in the marketplace."
The retailer was the first licensee to launch the A Hope to Dream program in January 2011. In its first year, the stores improved the lives of area children in need by giving away nearly 150 beds.
In addition to quarterly bed donations, the Jacksonville stores teamed up with the Salvation Army to distribute an additional 50 beds to children over the holiday season. The stores also participated in the Angel Tree and Adopt-A-Family programs, in association with the Salvation Army and a local news channel.
Military families are another group Fineman's HomeStores have been supporting since 2005, providing various forms of aid to military families. In 2011, the retailer established a partnership program with the Greater Jacksonville Area USO for "Help on the Home Front," assisting some 500 families.
As a result of the Chairman's Award honor, Fineman said he will present the Jacksonville USO with a special gift of $5,000 later this month.
The HomeStores also support the fight against breast cancer through involvement with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the American Cancer Society and The Donna Foundation. For the Donna National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer held Feb. 12, a portion of sales proceeds from the stores' current Presidents' Day Sale will go to the foundation to support research and empower women living with breast cancer.
Local efforts and Ashley corporate support have raised more than $122,000 for the cause to date, the company said.
Fineman attributed the majority of each event's success to the "outstanding dedication, support and involvement of the entire Ashley Furniture HomeStore team."
