Midwest Furniture Club's annual meeting addresses benefits, events
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, February 20, 2012
WILLOWBROOK, Ill. — About 40 people attended the Midwest Furniture Club's annual member benefits meeting here, hearing from representatives of the High Point Market Authority, Office Depot, Office Max and the International Home Furnishings Representatives Assn.
The Midwest club is one of IHFRA's largest affiliates.
Tom Conley, president and CEO of the High Point Market Authority, spoke about changes and updates to the market this year, including an upgraded buyer's concierge service, improvements to Wi-Fi and cell service in the buildings and on the street, and the growth in international and designer attendees.
Jen Sova, an administrator with IHFRA, outlined benefits and services extended to IHFRA members, including new initiatives with insurance, discounts at office supply stores and other savings opportunities.
Club members Brad Cofoid and Judy Walsh organized the benefits event and said they were pleased with the turn out.
"We focus on making sure the annual dues are a great investment for our members and they understand the value of the organization," said Cofoid. "Too many of our members don't enjoy the full benefits the club offers and this event tries to change that."
Member Mark Dilling detailed plans for the 10th annual Bill Krause Golf Outing to be held June 19 at Whisper Creek in Huntley, Ill.
Geoff Weed, who is coordinating this year's Midwest Furniture Show, said the event will return to the Schaumburg (Ill.) Convention Center Sept. 6-7 with improvements and new initiatives. He said there will be new exhibitors including World Imports, Woodpecker and Lifeline Mfg., and expanded spaces for manufacturers such as Ashley, Aspenhome, Englander, Corsicana, Natuzzi, John Thomas, Simply Amish, Homelegance and Pulaski.
Weed said bedding companies such as Serta, Englander, Restonic and Clare Bedding were among the first to re-sign, citing continuing success at the show.
