JOPLIN, Mo. — Leggett & Platt has donated $100,000 to Lafayette House, a shelter for women and children here, as part of its previously announced $1 million pledge to help the Joplin community after the May 2011 tornado.
Leggett, which is based in neighboring Carthage, Mo., said that in the weeks following the tornado, Lafayette House increased its housing capacity, and that its staff and volunteers remain dedicated to helping the tornado victims find homes and fulfill needs. Since the storm, the facility has seen a 40% increase in the number of residential nights provided.
"We are very grateful to Leggett & Platt for their strong community support and for recognizing the needs of area families," said Alison Malinowski Sunday, Lafayette House executive director. "This contribution will help hundreds of women and children."
Lafayette House will use a significant portion of the donation to refurbish its building.
