Merinos Home Furnishings opening display room, Boyles addition

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, May 23, 2012

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — Merinos Home Furnishings, a retailer that opened here last year in a refurbished former textile mill, says it plans to open two new buildings on the site this Monday, Memorial Day.

Boyles Furniture will open a 30,000-square-foot loft-style warehouse space called Boyles Furniture Direct. New shipments will fill the showroom over the next 60 days, the company said.

The new section will be in addition to the Boyles store that opened at the complex earlier this year, when two members of the Hendricks family revived the name after the former Boyles Furniture and Rugs closed last year.

Shoppers strolling the new phase at the complex also will see a 60,000-square-foot display room that Merinos owner Michael Bay said will house "the largest collection of rugs on the planet, including exquisite pieces from Europe and Asia."

Bay said the new phase will feature brands including Thomasville, Broyhill and Klaussner, with a focus on furniture made in the United States. He said the Boyles and Merinos offerings complement each other.

He said in a press release that his vision is to create a center for furniture tourism in North Carolina. Future plans include having artisans on site producing custom and designer furniture, with observation galleries for viewing. In September, he plans to open a 120-seat pizzeria with four wood-fired ovens from Italy.
