Weekends Only hires 3PD for home delivery, eyes growth

ST. LOUIS — Weekends Only Furniture Outlet says it has hired 3PD to handle home delivery for its five area stores as it evaluates expansion into other markets and online sales.
3PD provides home delivery and logistics services for retailers such as Home Depot, Macy's and Ikea, making nearly 5 million home deliveries annually from 533 locations and 35 distribution centers. Previously, Weekends Only's deliveries were handled by Show Me Home Delivery.
In a release, the Top 100 company said it hopes the transition to 3PD "will help raise the bar on delivery standards and position the company for growth into e-commerce and markets outside of the St. Louis area."
"We anticipate our new relationship with 3PD will accelerate our ongoing growth to becoming a Top 50 home furnishings company," said Dionne Dumitru, chief operating officer/strategic business development.
"This new partnership extends our reach beyond our current market. Sharing in 3PD's best practice last-mile service will undoubtedly enable us to improve customer satisfaction and achieve operational efficiencies."
The bargain-oriented retailer, which is only open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, wouldn't elaborate further on its expansion plans.
Weekend's Only is No. 84 on Furniture/Today's Top 100 with estimated furniture, bedding and accessories sales last year of $56.3 million, up 14.4% from the year before.
