Haynes Brothers' Furniture reins passed to new generation

DAYTON BEACH, Fla. — Two brothers who ran a family furniture business here for more than half a century are stepping into retirement and turning the business over to a third and possibly fourth generation, the Daytona Beach News-Journal reported.
Doyle and Tom Haynes, who joined Haynes Brothers' Furniture in the mid-1950s, are passing the baton to David, Doyle's son, and to Steve, Tom's son. David has been with the company for 32 years and is the store's general manager. Tom runs one of the company's four stores, in Ormond Beach, Fla., and has been with the retailer for 28 years.
Hobart and Estelle Haynes, Doyle and Tom's parents, began selling furniture in Florida in the late 1930s, the newspaper said. Mrs. Haynes, who died recently at 101, remained involved in the business into her 80s.
Several other family members also are active in the business. David Haynes' sons, Jason and Kyle, handle advertising and oversee pricing and inventory; Wade Brown, Steve Haynes' son-in-law, runs the Daytona Beach store; Doyle Haynes' wife, Betty, is the company's bookkeeper; Tom Haynes' wife, Peggy, runs the main office; and Steve Haynes' wife, Sharon, is the store decorator.
