Exclusive Report: eTailer Report for 2012
Online furniture sales up 5.8% in 2011
Dana French -- Furniture Today, August 13, 2012
Furniture sales through the Internet increased 5.8% last year, according to comScore, reaching $6.8 billion. Those sales figures translate into the online channel accounting for 8% of total furniture and bedding retail sales. (See Furniture Today's latest eTailer Report.)
Online' s 2011 growth rate, while lower than the 7.4% experienced by the category between 2009 and 2010, is remarkably strong in the tepid economy and well outpaces overall furniture sales increases.
The 30 online home furnishings players highlighted in this report garnered combined 2011 total sales, for all products, of more than $51 billion. The listing includes the heavyweights of Amazon and Overstock, as well as companies specializing in home products, such as Boston-based Wayfair, Omaha, Neb.-based Hayneedle, and San Mateo, Calif.-based Zoostores.com.
