TENAFLY, N.J. — James "Jim" Cory, retired managing partner of Joseph Cory Holdings, died Sept. 10 at his home here after a long illness. He was 72.

The son of Joseph Cory Sr., who founded of the family-owned and operated company in 1938, Jim Cory was president and chief operating officer from 1959 to 2008, when the third generation of the family began overseeing the company, parent of Cory Home Delivery.

At that time, Jim and his brother Joe Cory became managing partners in the business.

Jim Cory got his start in the delivery and warehouse business at age 13, washing trucks, sweeping warehouse floors and constructing dollies.
"Jim's legacy was his passion and drive for a successful, smooth running warehouse operation, amongst his many other accomplishments," said Joe Cory, chairman and CEO, adding that his brother was instrumental in the development and writing of "The Cory Way" - standards of excellence that continue to be the company's bedrock principles.

"Jimmy lives on in the memories and hearts of an uncountable chorus of family, friends, and associates that lament his passing," Joe Cory said.

In addition to his brother, Jim Cory is survived by his wife, one son, a daughter, a sister and three grandchildren. His nephew Patrick Cory is a managing partner in the business.

Services will be held at noon Saturday, Sept. 15, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 10 County Road, Tenafly, N.J. There will be a gathering for family and friends immediately afterward at The Clinton Inn, 145 Dean Drive in Tenafly.
