Boyd Specialty Sleep
ST. LOUIS - Boyd Specialty Sleep has named Jeremy Kates to the newly created post of director of Internet operations.
Kates will manage all of the producer's online functions and websites, focusing on strategies that will create a strong presence both for the Boyd name and each of the company's products.
He reports to company President Dennis Boyd.
"More than 50% of our consumers consult the Internet before making a purchase," Boyd said, "and our objective is to effectively reach them with our brand messaging before they begin the shopping process."
The company's websites include boydlatexmattresses.com, boydairbeds.com, boydmemory-foammattresses. com, and boydaccentbedroomfurniturestore.com.
Most recently, Kates was marketing director of Web2Carz. com, a Chicago-based automotive site that matches consumers with new and used cars, auto insurance companies and finance companies. Ear lier, he founded jfknet Inc., a digital marketing consulting firm that he headed for 14 years.
WASHINGTON - Consulting and liquidation firm APJL Consulting has hired 30-year industry veteran Les Diehl as its national sales manager west.
Diehl, who has been with several furniture industry liquidation sale specialists, most recently SPCI, will be based in Scottsdale, Ariz. APJL said he will strengthen the company's position in the marketplace and will broaden its ability to help clients in distress.
"Les is a seasoned leader in our industry and is known for his honesty and integrity. We are thrilled to have Les join our team," said company President Allen Parvizian.
ATLANTA - Pure LatexBliss has appointed Steve Baumberger to lead sales for the company's Southwest division.
Baumberger previously was a senior territory manager for International Bedding, where he was responsible for spearheading sales growth in Southern California.
Prior to that, he was president of Baumberger's Furniture from 1997 to 2007. He first joined the family business in 1992 as a sales representative and assistant manager.
"Steve brings over 20 years of sales experience with a superior understanding of mattress retail, sales management, merchandising and sales training," said Pure Latex-Bliss President Kurt Ling. "His extensive industry insight makes him the ideal person to build our business in the Southwest. DALLAS - Upholstered furniture manufacturer Massoud has appointed independent sales executive John Harmon to represent its line in Kentucky, Ohio, western Pennsylvania, Michigan and Indiana.
Harmon will work with Massoud's established account base to ensure they have the products, service and marketing support needed to maximize sales of the line, the company said. He will also work to open and develop new accounts in his territories.
"John's proven industry experience, together with his solid understanding of the sales/marketing partnership relationship between a manufacturer and its accounts, will certainly help us as we continue to build our brand, our customers' business and our sales," said Chuck Massoud, CEO.
Harmon has more than 25 years of furniture industry product line sales experience with companies including C.R. Laine, Hooker Furniture, Michael Thomas Furniture and Harden Furniture.
Carolina Mattress Guild
THOMASVILLE, N.C. - Bedding company Carolina Mattress Guild has hired Alan Stein as its Florida territory manager.
He reports to Tom Rehwinkel, national sales manager.
Stein has more than 25 years of experience in the bedding industry. He most recently worked at Tempur-Pedic as a territory sales manager and has also worked for Kingsdown and Sealy.
"We are very happy to have a person of Alan's experience and reputation join us at CMG," said Neal Grigg, president of Carolina Mattress Guild. "Alan is a quality addition to our already stellar sales staff and we're excited to have him on board."
WATERLOO, Ontario - Social-North, a social media strategy firm, has named Dana Helms social media community manager. She will work with Julia Rosien, SocialNorth's owner.
Helms most recently was with MicroD, a website development company focused on the home furnishings industry.
She is also the vice president of social media for WithIt, where she serves with Rosien, who is president of WithIt. The two have worked together to develop content and create visibility for the nonprofit women's leadership organization. During Helms' tenure, WithIt's online community has doubled and memberships are on the rise, according to Rosien.
"We're looking forward to building on SocialNorth's positive momentum with Dana executing on social media strategy for our clients," said Rosien. "Dana is an exceptional conversationalist and online brand advocate - must-have strengths that we're confident will support our growth as an international company."
CHANTILLY, Va. - Cort, a Berkshire Hathaway-owned furniture rental and business services company, has hired Lisa Woodworth as its vice president of marketing.
Woodworth, who reports to Cort President and CEO Jeff Pederson, will be responsible for bolstering the company's corporate marketing efforts, according to a release. She replaces Bob Buzzell, who was promoted to vice president of operations.
She was most recently vice president and director of strategy and planning at Ogilvy & Mather, an international marketing, advertising and public relations agency. She has also worked as a senior manager within Kodak and Bausch & Lomb/Luxottica.
"Lisa's experience in advertising, product and process management, her people skills and branding know-how make her a tremendous addition to Cort's senior leadership team," Pederson said.
