HIGH POINT — High-end source Taracea will show some product in restored portions of its future High Point Market showroom in the historic Radio Building.
The company's current showroom is in the International Home Furnishings Center, H-1103. A limited number of pieces will be on display at the Radio Building.
The Radio Building, at 164 S. Main St., is the former location of the Commercial National Bank. One of its notable features is a solid steel bank vault weighing 24 tons, which has been used as an entertaining area by past exhibitors in the space.
The renaissance revival style building was designed in the early 1920s by architect Charles C. Hartmann. Today, the building is operated by Candace Lambeth, president of Lambeth Enterprises.
Taracea founder Javier Suárez, whose interests include architecture and historic preservation, helped restore the lobby's 30-foot high ceilings.
To create the effect of the original arched windows, Suárez designed 19-foot antiqued mirrored panels to reflect light and emphasize ceiling height.
Also prominent will be a 24- by 44-foot painting that represents one of the 1921 blueprints used in the building's construction. The massive display will be installed above the former bank vault that anchors the 5,000-square-foot first floor furniture showroom space.
