Malaysian International Furniture Fair set for March 5-9

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, October 26, 2012

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Next year's Malaysian International Furniture Fair is set for March 5-9, show officials announced this week.

The event will be held in about 800,000 square feet at the Putra World Trade Center and the Matrade Exhibition and Convention Center, both in downtown Kuala Lumpur.

MIFF will showcase indoor residential furniture from about 500 exhibitors, 70% of which are from Malaysia. It also attracts more than 7,000 overseas buyers from 140 countries, including the United States and Canada.

The show is a way for regional furniture producers to gain access to new markets both in and outside the ASEAN region, said Tan Chin Huat, MIFF chairman. ASEAN, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, includes Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore and Laos.

"Buyers from all over the world are looking to Southeast Asia for furniture supply," he said in a statement. "In this regard, we look forward to and welcome more exhibitors from the ASEAN region to join us. MIFF provides the best platform for regional manufacturers and suppliers to display their products...."

The show, which generated record sales of $830 million this year, is owned and organized by UBM Asia, which runs more than 150 fairs in Asia including Furniture China and the Index furniture shows in India.
