Seymour Milgrom, New York retailer

Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, December 3, 2012

SPRING VALLEY, N.Y. - Seymour Milgrom, a retailer in the New York City area for more than 50 years, has died. He was 70.
Milgrom got his start in the industry when
he began working at his family's store, Major Furniture, as a teenager in the 1950s. He eventually took over running the business and moved it from Brooklyn to Manhattan.
In 1993, he closed Major and opened two Drexel Heritage stores, one in Manhattan and one in Hartsdale, N.Y. He ran those stores until his retirement in 2009, and both have since closed.
Mike DiGregorio, a former business partner of Milgrom's who is now with Safavieh, said Milgrom was a fixture at the High Point Market, attending every show between 1962 and 2009. Milgrom was born with a hearing impairment, but DiGregorio said that didn't stop him.
"He never let that hold him back, and he was an inspiration to all that worked with him, showing drive and determination equals success," Di- Gregorio said. Milgrom is survived by two nieces, a grandniece, a grandnephew and many friends
