ATLANTA — AmericasMart has partnered with Verizon Wireless to create what officials say is a fully functional wireless communications environment in the facility.
A new Distributed Antenna System will deliver improved wireless coverage, capacity and data speeds for Verizon Wireless customers on every floor and in every showroom and exhibit hall of the three-building AmericasMart campus, according to the facility's operators.
The installation was completed in time for the Atlanta International Gift & Home Furnishings Market, which runs Jan. 9-16, and the Atlanta International Area Rug Market featuring the National Oriental Rug Show, set for Jan. 10-13.
Additionally, Verizon Wireless products and services will be available for purchase onsite starting with the January markets.
The Verizon partnership achieves a milestone in AmericasMart's mission to create optimal business advantages for its customers, said Jeffrey L. Portman, Sr., president and chief operating officer of parent company AMC.
"This takes us into a new universe of opportunities powered by technology innovations that will reshape how business is done," Portman said. "We are working on several opportunities to enhance the AmericasMart market experience, plus other new advancements to come, all resulting from this strategic technology investment."
The DAS includes separate antenna locations mounted throughout the campus to boost network strength and capacity. In addition to ensuring calls are successfully connected, the DAS allows smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices to access the Internet, send text messages and quickly share photos and videos to social networking sites.
Coverage encompasses all AmericasMart and Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMart spaces to deliver wireless transmission in all environments, including interior corridors, loading docks and areas shielded by marble and stone wall and floor construction.
Verizon customers at the markets will gain the additional advantage of accessing the nation's largest 4G network via a variety of Verizon-powered devices, officials said. Attendees will be able to surf the Web, stream live music and video, and stay in touch with business associates at speeds up to 10 times faster than before. According to Verizon Wireless, the company's 4G LTE network offers more 4G LTE coverage than all other competitors' networks combined.
"We are pleased to work with AmericasMart to deploy this type of DAS network, which will help ensure our customers have the best wireless experience on our 3G and 4G LTE networks when attending the January markets and beyond," said Jonathan LeCompte, president, Georgia/Alabama region, for Verizon Wireless.
