Martin McDermott, Martin Fine Furniture

McDermottMcDermottINDIANAPOLIS - Martin D. McDermott, owner of what is believed to be the oldest furniture retailer in Indiana, Martin Fine Furniture, has died. He was 80.
     Martin Fine Furniture, a division of M. Clune Co., was founded in 1854. The business is known for its fun and witty TV advertisements, which featured McDermott.
     After graduating from college, McDermott served in the Marine Corps for four years as a second lieutenant. He was active in civic and church affairs and was given the key to the city of Indianapolis by Mayor Bill Hudnut. He loved swimming and won medals competing in the Senior Olympics.
     Survivors include four daughters, four sons, two brothers, 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
