Therapedic adds gel foam to Kathy Ireland line

David Perry -- Furniture Today, January 29, 2013

LAS VEGAS - Top 10 bedding producer Therapedic International is adding gel-infused memory foam to new Kathy Ireland Home by Therapedic models it is introducing here.
The combination of gel foam, the biggest innovation to hit the mattress industry in years, and the Kathy Ireland name should be a strong draw for consumers, said Gerry Borreggine, CEO of Therapedic.
The new KI models offer a number of updated features and aesthetic enhancements.
The Princeton, N.J.-based producer, which shows in World Market Center B-822, is introducing a line that features a five-zone support innerspring system with seven-inch coils for added support and comfort, and a sleek design with gray, blue and white stretch knit ticking, the company said.
The collection's new innerspring support system allows better weight distribution and better conforms to the body because of its taller coil design. Interconnected rows of springs optimize durability and stability and its head-to-foot laced helical promotes less partner disturbance and reduces motion transfer, officials said.
The line's stretch knit ticking features a contemporary silver, white and blue color palette to complement the gray and white border pattern.
"Therapedic is uniquely positioned within the industry," said Borreggine. "Retailers know that we are a nimble manufacturer capable of making products that blend innovation, technology and style. Our Kathy Ireland Home collection has been one of our most successful lines, and we are always looking to enhance the series to offer retailers and consumers high quality mattresses at value prices.
"The added design elements in the ticking help increase curb appeal on the showroom floor and attract more foot traffic.," he said
The collection consists of four models, the Trianon Palace, Tranquility, City Harmony and Waikola Beach, offered in firm, plush and pillow-top feels. Three of the four models include gel-infused foam, thus providing a more comfortable and cooler sleep experience, the company said.
The Trianon Palace firm model uses one-inch firm latex and also includes an extra inch of high performance firm foam. The Trianon Palace luxury plush and pillowtop models feature one inch of plush latex, a half inch of gel-infused foam, 1.5-inch, five-zone plush contour foam, and one inch of heavy density support foam. The pillowtop also includes an extra inch of plush comfort foam for an even more luxurious feel, the company said. The suggested retail price ranges from $1,299 to $1,399 in queen.
The Tranquility and City Harmony collections feature a one-inch layer of gel-infused foam and use a chic design in stretch knit ticking to enhance its aesthetic. The series ranges from $1,099 to $1,199 in queen for Tranquility and $899 to $999 for City Harmony.
The Waikola Beach collection features all memory foam and incorporates an intricate design element into the ticking for a more contemporary look. The suggested retail price ranges from $799 to $899 in queen.
All of the new mattresses feature Therapedic's exclusive HourGlass Back Support Pad, an ergonomically designed polypropylene insert that sits atop the coils and increases support firmness for the shoulder, hips and lumbar area, the company said.

Furniture Marketing Group Symposium draws 200 to Las Vegas

Throughout Furniture Marketing Group's 2013 Symposium here, one theme was driven home time and again: The days of sitting back and watching the traffic rush into your store are gone. Retailers need to lift their game, becoming that competitor they dread, and pull out all the stops when it comes to engaging their customers.
