Art Van Furniture donates $20,000 in furnishings to injured veteran

WARREN, Mich. — Art Van Furniture has donated more than $20,000 in home furnishings for the new home of injured U.S. Army veteran Sgt. Davin Dumar.

Singer and Michigan native Kid Rock and his Kid Rock Foundation partnered with Pulte Homes as part of Operation Finally Home, to present a mortgage-free 2,600-square-foot property to Dumar and his wife, Dana. The Dumars moved into the Macomb, Mich., home Feb. 1.

Art Van, visited by the Dumars at its Shelby Township, Mich., store, donated furniture for all areas of the home, said Diane Charles, the Top 100 company's director of corporate communications.

Deployed to Afghanistan in 2011, Dumar was struck by an improvised explosive device during engagement with enemy forces. His left leg was amputated as a result of his injuries.

"On behalf of the 2,700 associates of Art Van Furniture, we want to personally thank Sgt. Dumar for his service to our country," Art Van Elslander, chairman and founder of the retailer said in a release. "His sacrifice has not gone unnoticed by our community. It's an honor for us to help welcome this soldier home."

In addition, other area retailers donated bedding and housewares, and Meijer is helping with groceries and other household items, the release said. Paul's TV inside Art Van also made a donation.
