Henredon closing plant
Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 28, 2013
MOUNT AIRY, N.C. - Henredon Furniture will close an upholstered furniture plant here, shifting the production to a plant near Hickory, N.C., according to company parent Furniture Brands International.
More than 100 people will be laid off as a result of the closing, which will take place over several months, according to media reports.
A Furniture Brands spokesperson said that a variety of positions will be available in Hickory for employees interested in relocating. The company said it also is providing severance packages and is working with the North Carolina Division of Employment Security "to assure that all associates who qualify for retraining via the (Trade Adjustment Assistance) training program receive any available benefits."
"Furniture Brands is implementing our strategy to create more efficiency in our manufacturing operations, which is better for our company and our customers," the company said.
