FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. — Gorman's Home Furnishings & Interior Design hired George Efthemiou as general manager of its Lakeside design center and showroom in Shelby Township, Mich.

He replaces Jim Heron, who left the company.

In the post, Efthemiou "will leverage his more than 30 years of retail management experience to oversee day-to-day operations of the store and support Gorman's design team members," the five-store upscale retailer said in a release. He also will be responsible for staffing, inventory control, customer service, and showroom floor design.

Most recently, Efthemiou was general manager of home furnishings retailer Bright Ideas in Royal Oak. Earlier, he was store manager and buyer at House of Denmark for nearly 30 years, primarily in Livonia, Mich.

"Efthemiou has an innate understanding of how Gorman's is positioned in the marketplace as a style leader and appreciates our company's commitment to exceeding customer expectations," said Gorman's President Tom Lias.

Separately, Gorman's was named a "Top Workplace in Michigan" by the Detroit Free Press, the third consecutive year the retailer has been included on the list. Companies were evaluated on factors including company direction, career opportunities, and leadership.

Gorman's employs about 140 people.

"We are honored to have so many talented people on our staff. It's their hard work and commitment to excellence, bolstered by their love of style and beautiful homes, that makes Gorman's an outstanding company," Gorman's CEO Bernie Moray said.
