BAY MINETTE, Ala. — Case goods importer and manufacturer Standard Furniture has named Roy Yates chief merchandising officer, a new position.

Yates has been with the company since 1997, most recently as director of product development for U.S. manufacturing.

In his new role, he reports to Todd Evans, president, and will oversee general merchandising activity. He also will be responsible for developing strategies relating to corporate initiatives for Standard and its corporate brands including IFM, Modern Fusion and Young Style.

He also will implement computer and digital modeling technologies that will enhance the company's R&D process, the company said. Teams in the merchandising and R&D departments will report to Yates.

"It became evident that Roy's analytical, organizational and problem solving skills were an asset that our company needed to maximize," Evans said. "Roy works well with our executive team and has the full confidence of our board of directors."
