Sunny Designs acquires High Point's Market on Green building

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, February 27, 2013

HIGH POINT — Case goods manufacturer Sunny Designs has acquired the Market on Green showroom building downtown in hopes of eventually growing its presence here.

Company President Sunny Hwang set up a separate entity called Cornerstone LLC to purchase the six-story building at 212 E. Green Drive, which is estimated at 174,000 square feet.

It purchased the building from an entity called PRW 3, 212 E. Green Drive LLC. A purchase price was not immediately available.

Current tenants include BK Home Furniture, Lloyds of Chatham, USA Premium Leather Furniture, Washington Furniture Sales and Panama Jack.

Sunny Designs, which shows in the National Furniture Mart building, said it eventually plans to occupy about 32,000 square feet of space on the fifth floor of the building. That's almost double its 17,000 square feet it occupies in its current location.

Officials did not say when the company plans to move to its new building. Hwang, who was traveling overseas, could not be reached for comment. But a company representative said the building was purchased for expansion purposes.
