Abbyson Living to open East Coast distribution center

Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, February 28, 2013

LOS ANGELES — Abbyson Living is about to open a new warehouse and distribution center in Sterling, Va., that is expected to improve service and delivery times to East Coast accounts.

The furniture, rugs and accents source already ships to East Coast accounts from California, but said it could take four to six weeks for those customers to receive goods.

Customers are now expected to receive goods in five to seven business days from the new 80,000-square-foot facility. The facility will begin shipping in about two weeks, officials said. It will also offer drop shipping.

The company said that placing a warehouse closer to customers also supports its green initiative by reducing travel time and fuel used to deliver the line, which includes bedroom, dining room, occasional and fabric and leather upholstery. The company also sells chairs, recliners, ottomans, mirrors, rugs and TV consoles.

"Though we've long been servicing our clientele from our distribution center in California, we realized there was an opportunity to be even more efficient in taking care of our customers' needs," Doddy Rafieha, vice president of Abbyson Living, said in a statement. "Opening our new warehouse and distribution facility in Virginia allows us to get product to our East Coast consumers faster, with the same level of customer service they've come to expect from Abbyson Living."

The new facility employs 10 workers now and is expected to increase that number to 30 by September and 50 by year's end.
